Individualised Living Options (ILO)
Short‑term respite that feels like home, giving family carers a break while your loved one enjoys safe, supportive care in a warm and welcoming environment.
What Is Individualised Living Option (ILO)
ILO is an NDIS‑funded support that helps you choose where and how you live, with flexibility to design living arrangements that suit you. With AB Nurses, your ILO package is built around your routines, relationships and goals, so you can thrive in a home environment that feels safe, comfortable and truly your own.
Key Features
Personalised Living Arrangements
With ILO, you can choose from different living options, such as living in your own place with support, sharing with others or living with a host arrangement that feels right for you. Your supports are tailored to what you need day to day, whether that is help with daily tasks, building routines or having a trusted companion in your home.
More Choice and Independence
ILO gives you greater flexibility to decide where you live, who you live with and how your supports are set up, so your living arrangement is more independent and self‑directed. You can shape your support hours and roles around your goals, interests and preferred way of living.
Support Beyond the Home
We also help you stay connected to work, study, social activities and your local community, so your support is not just about where you live but how you live your life.
Collaborative Planning
Our team works alongside you (and your family or support network if you wish) to create a personalised ILO plan that reflects your needs, relationships, routines and future aspirations.
Live Your Way with ILO
Individualised Living Options give you the freedom to shape your own living arrangements, with support that fits around your life rather than the other way around. You might choose to live more independently with tailored support, share a home with housemates or explore a host arrangement that feels safe and welcoming.
Everything starts with what matters most to you—your routines, relationships and goals—and our team works alongside you to turn that vision into a practical, personalised ILO plan. There is no one‑size‑fits‑all model, just flexible support designed to reflect who you are and how you want to live.
Who can I live with under ILO?
Everyone’s ideal home life looks different, so your ILO can be set up in the way that feels right for you. You have genuine choice over who you live with and how much support you have day to day.
Living with a host
You may choose to live with a host, such as a family or non‑related person who offers a stable, welcoming home and agreed levels of support and companionship. Your NDIS plan can fund the in‑home supports provided by your host, tailored around your needs and routines.

Living with housemates
You can also live with housemates who may be friends, family members or a partner, combining shared living with the support you need. In some arrangements, your NDIS funding can help make shared living more affordable and sustainable for everyone involved.

Living on your own
If you prefer to live alone, we can help you set up your own place with flexible drop‑in and remote supports so you can stay safe, comfortable and independent. Family, friends or neighbours can be part of your support network, with AB Nurses coordinating the additional help you need.
Independent
Our team will work with you to explore each option and design a living arrangement that fits your lifestyle, needs and long‑term goals.
Our Process
At AB Nurses, our Individualised Living Options (ILO) support is structured around two key stages, so your living arrangements genuinely reflect your needs and preferences.
Your ILO journey starts here, as we work closely with you and your support network to explore and decide on:
Stage 1
Exploration and Design
In this first stage, we spend time getting to know you and working with your support network to explore what a good home life looks like for you. Together, we look at where you want to live, who you would like to live with, what supports you will need and who you would feel comfortable receiving support from.
We then design a tailored ILO plan that captures your preferred living arrangement, the mix of formal and informal supports and how these will work day to day. This exploration and design phase usually happens over several months and includes preparing an ILO Service Proposal for the NDIA, which may be funded through your NDIS plan (for example, under core or capacity‑building supports) so you can carefully consider your home and living options.
Stage 2
Supports and Monitoring
Once your ILO Service Proposal is approved, we put your plan into action and support you to settle into your chosen home and routine. Our team stays closely involved, providing the agreed supports and checking in regularly to make sure everything feels safe, comfortable and right for you.
If things change or something is not working, we will work with you and your support network to adjust your ILO so it continues to match your needs, goals and preferences. AB Nurses remains by your side throughout your ILO journey, helping you maintain a living arrangement where you feel empowered, supported and genuinely at home.
